INTRO

Caminos del Inka — "paths of the Inca" — is a name that speaks to heritage, journey, and discovery. From producer Samuel Smith Pérez, this is a Gesha that struck Prodigal's team at the World of Coffee expo in April and made an immediate impression: a ripe, creamy mix of peach and orange with a lovely hint of coffee cherry in the finish.

Monthly subscribers encountered it first, and now this Peruvian Gesha is available to all. It's an exciting addition to what's becoming an increasingly compelling picture of Peru's finest specialty coffee.

THE PRODUCER

Samuel Smith Pérez is a young, talented producer making waves in Peru's emerging specialty coffee scene. His Gesha lot caught the attention of Prodigal at an international exposition — a testament to the quality of the work he's doing at the farm level.

Gesha was first collected from Ethiopian coffee forests in the 1930s. After travelling through Tanzania and Central America, it came to prominence in 2005 when the Peterson family of Boquete, Panama, showcased its extraordinary potential at the Best of Panama competition. Now prized by producers worldwide, it continues to be one of the most celebrated varieties in specialty coffee.

THE PROCESS

The Washed process for Caminos del Inka involves:

  • 🍒 Selective Harvest — Only ripe cherries picked at peak ripeness
  • Quality Sorting — Cherries checked and floated to remove defects
  • 📅 Open-Tank Fermentation — 48 hours in open fermentation tanks
  • 💧 Washing — Mucilage removed through careful washing
  • ☀️ Drying — Dried on raised beds

The extended 48-hour fermentation builds depth and complexity whilst the thorough washing preserves the Gesha's inherent clarity and aromatic expressiveness.

THE CUP

Caminos del Inka is a ripe and luscious Gesha with the variety's characteristic delicacy intact. Peach and orange sit at the centre of the cup, supported by a lovely creaminess and a lingering hint of coffee cherry in the finish.

Flavour Notes
