INTRO

The oma January Lot from El Porvenir is an exquisitely refined expression of Geisha processed using cold tank fermentation — a technique that dramatically slows enzymatic activity and produces a cup of unusual elegance and precision. Grown at 1,600–1,800 metres in Palestina, Huila, this lot was harvested in January 2026 and specifically selected by oma for its brightness, aromatic clarity, and floral complexity.

Cold tank fermentation, applied before the coffee is washed clean, produces a cup that feels simultaneously delicate and vivid — jasmine florals and mandarin citrus with a lemonade-like clarity that is instantly captivating.

THE PRODUCER

Finca El Porvenir, managed by Camilo Segura and Cecilia Almonacid in Palestina, Huila, is a small, dedicated farm producing some of Colombia's most celebrated Geisha at 1,600–1,800 MASL. With shade-grown cultivation and a philosophy of minimal environmental impact, the farm hand-picks only the ripest cherries and sorts rigorously before processing. The cold tank fermentation used for the oma January Lot was developed in collaboration with oma to produce a cup that reflects the Geisha variety's delicate floral genetics with maximum clarity.

THE PROCESS

The Cold Tank Fermented Washed process at El Porvenir involves:

  • 🍒 Hand-picking — Ripest cherries selected at peak maturity
  • Rigorous sorting — Density and ripeness sorting before processing
  • 🔧 Pulping — Skin removed to expose mucilage-coated parchment
  • ❄️ Cold tank fermentation — Parchment is placed in sealed tanks at low temperature, dramatically slowing fermentation and preserving delicate floral and citrus aromatics
  • 💧 Washing — Coffee is thoroughly washed after fermentation to remove all mucilage residue
  • ☀️ Raised-bed drying — Washed parchment dries slowly on African beds

The cold temperature during fermentation is the key differentiator, producing a cup of unusual brightness, elegance, and aromatic precision.

THE CUP

A bright, elegant, and lingering Geisha of exceptional aromatic clarity. Jasmine florals open into mandarin orange and citrus oil complexity, with a refreshing lemonade-like quality that is clean, vibrant, and distinctly refined.
