INTRO

This exclusive peaberry selection from EAAGADS Estate is an oma-selected lot showcasing the estate's SL28 and Ruiru 11 varieties at their most expressive. The estate is one of Kiambu's most storied coffee farms — publicly listed on the Nairobi Stock Exchange and spanning approximately 205 hectares along the Chania River — and its Washed peaberry lots consistently deliver the vivid, perfumed character that defines great Kenyan coffee.

Peaberries form when the coffee cherry develops a single, rounded bean rather than the usual flat-sided pair, resulting in a denser, more concentrated flavour. This oma-exclusive selection brings together the fruity complexity of SL28 with the disease-resistant Ruiru 11, producing a cup that is vibrant, deeply fruited, and unmistakably Kenyan.

THE PRODUCER

Established in 1946 and listed on the Nairobi Stock Exchange as Eaagads Company Limited, EAAGADS Estate is one of Kenya's most historically significant coffee farms. Situated in Kiambu County at 1,600 MASL, the 205-hectare estate sits along the Chania River on fertile volcanic soils in a cool highland climate ideally suited to Arabica cultivation.

The estate cultivates multiple Kenyan varieties — including SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11, K7, and Acaia — and places a strong emphasis on eco-friendly farming, recycling water from its wet mills and using cherry husks as organic compost. Around 47% of the land is maintained under natural flora cover to support biodiversity.

THE PROCESS

The Washed process at EAAGADS Estate involves:

  • 🍒 Hand-picking — Only the ripest red cherries are selected at each pass through the estate
  • Sorting — Incoming cherries are sorted to remove damaged, unripe, or low-density fruit
  • 🔧 Pulping — Cherries are pulped on the day of picking to remove the fruit skin
  • 🧪 Fermentation — Parchment is fermented to loosen remaining mucilage
  • 💧 Washing — Parchment is thoroughly washed with clean water
  • ☀️ Drying — Coffee dries on raised African beds until moisture stabilises

This traditional Washed method, applied to carefully selected peaberry fruit, produces a cup of extraordinary clarity and intensity.

THE CUP

An intense, perfumed peaberry from one of Kiambu's most celebrated estates. Hibiscus florals lead into deep blackberry and raspberry fruit with a vibrant, juicy structure that lingers on the palate.
