THE PRODUCER
The Nemba washing station sits in Kayanza province — one of Burundi's most celebrated coffee-growing regions, close to the Rwandan border and well above 1,700 MASL. The station collects cherries from over 2,600 smallholder farmers across multiple delivery points, with an agronomist stationed at each collection site to guide cultivation, harvest, and post-harvest practices. The station also runs a nursery for coffee seedlings and produces organic fertiliser from composted coffee cherry, returning value directly to the farming families in its network.
THE PROCESS
Ripe cherries are pulped and fermented before being thoroughly washed with clean water and transferred to raised beds, where they are dried under the sun with careful attention to airflow for uniform, even drying.
THE CUP
Everything a great Burundian filter should be — bright, sweet, and elegantly structured. The Red Bourbon variety shines here, delivering that characteristic honeyed acidity alongside stone fruit and florals that unfold slowly in the cup.
